Creative; The new buzzword

January 10, 2019

“creative” is simply seeing what others either don't, or don't yet see

Creative.

What comes to mind when you hear [or read ] this simple eight letter word?

In today’s environment everyone wants to be labeled creative because it’s cool and the new pedestal of aspiration.

Creative is the new “intelligent”.

Creativity is the new “savvy”.

Creative is the new "cool".

Why? Because so much of what we have seen change has been rooted in creativity and it’s now cool/savvy/intelligent to be creative.

When we look up the definition of creative on dictionary.com we find this;

Adjective

  1. Having the quality or power of creating

  2. Resulting from originality, expression, etc; imaginative

  3. orginative ; productive

    ( https://www.dictionary.com/browse/creative)

Creativity stems from the imagination, and imagination is something we all possess. Maybe imagination is stronger, or more prominent in some but we all have it. Our outward display or product of that imagination is seen in how we choose to express it; sometimes it’s through our appearance, our language, our work or our hobbies.

Instead of placing “creative” on a pedestal just think of it this way;

Creativity is just an explanation of order. Today’s creative is tomorrow’s normal.

So I leave you with the idea creative(ty) isnt some super power but matter of time. We've all seen trends change and know that what is cool now wasnt yesterday. What is terrible now may be great tomorrow.

Something “creative” is simply seeing what others either don't, or don't yet see, not seeing what other cannot see. It’s the creative’s job to make the unseen, seen.
